Debit & Credit App Reviews

Easy and helpful

After being burned by Quicken, this app was both helpful and fairly easy to learn. Doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but for a free app it’s very functional.

Ok but needs a lot of work

I purchased the upgrade and it’s an ok money program. When I enter a total of a grocery bill and break it down by category (I keep track of dog expenses), I have to manually figure the total bill. For example, bill $145 with $30 for dog food, $20 for dog treats and $10 for dog toy. I have to post the following. Total spent $145 with categories of $30 dog food, $20 dog treats, $10 dog toy, $84.00 groceries, $1 sales tax. It doesn’t do the break down for you. For example, Total spent $145 and as I post each category and post the final 2 entries of sales tax and groceries, it should post the amounts automatically but it doesn’t. I haven’t been able to figure out how to sync with my bank accounts. :( Like someone else posted, finding answers to questions is impossible for this program. I have to manually enter bank transactions because I only use this on my Apple laptop and not my phone or ipad. Guess I was spoiled with Quicken Essentials. It’s a simple program but needs a lot of work.

Balancing

I wish there was a way to Balance accounts against Institutions Statements.

Awesome Finance App

This app is perfect for anyone who wants a simple "check book” to keep track of their finances. It’s very simple to add transactions, and to put together a simple budget that will help keep track of how much you spend for each thing you budget.

Works as Advertised

Works as advertised, how refreshing is it to hear that? I was a long time user of iFinance, to me it was the best of what was available at the time. I was never completely satisfide with it, it always had something quirkey going on but I put up with it because there wasn’t anything else I liked in this category. Finally, iFinance stopped working when I updated to 10.11. I learned there was a newer version but at $40 I wasn’t about to spend that much on something that never worked “great”. I came across Debit and Credit and decided to give it a shot. Within minutes I upgraded to the Premium version and purchased the iOS version. The two programs work beautifully together and cost less then most other single platform options. Early on I emailed Ivan with a feature I was having problems with. He mentioned there was an update coming in a few weeks to address the issue I was having. Not only was the update released as promised (version 1.8) but Ivan also sent me a follow up email to let me know the update was released! How awesome is that? This software is relatively basic but wow does it work well. It does everything its advertised to do without the bloat of some other options. If you want something fast and effortless you owe it to yourself to check this out.

Fantastic

What a great little app. Love the simplicity. Has just what you need without bulking it up with useless features. I had been using iReconcile on my iOS apps for the past three years but hated the fact that there was no accompanying Mac app. This just works… And the updates are regular and great improvements. Great job Dev!

Doesn’t support check numbers

Kind of useless for managing a checking account since it does not have a field for inputting check numbers. Also, the display is very spartan as it is just a white background with text floating on it and does not have a way to set background colors or alternating color lines like in a register.

Simple and clean

This finance app is great. It’s very simple and clean. Unlike other financial software, eye-candy distractions are not needed. It’s pure in its intent on making incomes and expenses easy to input. Strongly recommended. Great support and works well with iPhone and iPad!

Fantastic app!

This is a great app! I like that it’s simple and easy to use, and that it doesn’t ask for your passwords to all your financial accounts like so many other apps! One suggestion for improvement - in the budgets section, allow for income categories as part of a budget. For example, my wife likes to buys clothes and sometimes return them - it would be great if I could track the returns as part of the budget, to see how much was actually spent in that category… another example, I like to purchase new electronics and often sell old equiment on the used market - if I could track the used sales as part of my electronics budget, I would know how much I actually spent over a year! Right now, you can figure this out of course by running the reports, but it’s a bit more tedious than just being able to add income categories to budgets. Other than that - thanks for this awesome app, and keep up the good work!

Quicken user for years…, like what I see here, simplicity!

Just started using this tonight, but I’ve used all the majors and this fits the bill for my at home needs. Nice work Ivan and excellent support!

Very Nice App and can save money

Real nice app and I like the way it seamlessly works between my iPhone, my iPad, and my MacBook. Make a change on any device and it updates the other devices automatically when they are accessable. I also backup my data constantly. I no longer need to run to the bank and get registers for anything, nor purchase them. Saves me money, saves me time, saves me transportation costs and it’s very convienient.

Like It!!!!!

I’ve been using the app for about three months now. It’s been working pretty good so far. Great for keeping up with a small or personal account.

Basically the same as YNAB but less useful

This doesn’t offer any advantage over YNAB 4. YNAB has a better interface, with more views and reporting features, so I’d stick with YNAB. Price is about the same as well.

Just one small drawback

I’d been using a paid money manager for years. Okay decades. But the developers seemed to have gone off the deep end a couple of years ago and made it less user friendly. I’d given up on finding an alternative. But I love this app. It allows me to quickly and easily keep up on my checking account and balance it at the end of the month. I enter most of the information from my lap top, but I can access it with the app too on my iPhone! (Something the paid app couldn’t do!) The only draw back is, to put in the date you have to take an extra step. I can’t always put in info the day the transaction takes place. In fact, I seldom do. So Pleasssse put the date on the main screen when entering transactions. Oh and I LOVE the price!!!

Wow! Clean, Sleek, Simple … Yet Powerful

I am certain I have used every Finance app available over the last ten years. While there are many very good ones out there, there is always some issue that eventually causes me to keep looking. For my particular needs Credits & Debits is a wonderful fit! The overall app is extremely fast! The syncing with the iOS versions via iCloud works perfectly and very quickly. Setting up accounts, downloading data and getting it all categorized, etc. was very straight forward and worked without a hitch. I set up my checking, savings accounts, two credit cards plus my Amex that I use for business. I had never been one to use tags in the past, but found them very useful and easy to use when I wanted to exclude or include specific things in Reports. Budgets is another area that is simple, yet powerful. Scheduling payments is simple and clean to look at for review. Support is amazingly good. Every time I asked a question, the answer came back that afternoon (depends on your time zone I am sure) Anyway … this is a great app. I highly recommend giving it a try.

In the best tradition of Apple

Debit & Credit is an outstanding app, very well thought through, simple yet powerful—in the best tradition of Apple. This is the first finance app that I ever used, actually, and in conjunction with Debit & Credit for iOS, looks like this is the "love at first sight" for life.

Amazing

I’ve only been using this app for about a week. At first what I liked about it was its simplicity and the ability to include lots of information about each transaction (e.g. “notes”). Then I began noticing other great features, such as the way scheduled transactions are handled and the way it works with iCloud (enabling me to record and keep track of transactions on more than one device). Early on there was a glitch in which I lost my data. I sent an email to Ivan Pavlov (the developer presumably), and he responded immediately with a solution. All this for less than ten bucks! I could hardly believe it.

A Finance App That’s Easy to Use

I’ve been using Debit & Credit since it was first launched. It has been an amazing app to watch evolve. I use it to not only manage my regular checking account, but because it has multiple account functionality, I use it to manage my health FSA account for each year, my saving accounts, and my work travel card. I love the fact that I can attach photos of receipts with each transaction using my iPhone and iPad OR get back to my Mac and attach them as scanned documents (in PDF or JPG format). Then everything is one place and easy to access if I need to deal with anything when away from my office or home. The nice thing is, this is an app that can be as simple as tracking money in and money out or details, tags, budgets, scheduled transactions, and so much more. It’s what you make of it … and you don’t feel like you’re losing anything if you just keep it simple. And I, like several reviewers, longed for a way to reconcile my accounts with monthly statements … writing to technical support to share this thought resulted in a quick, thoughtful, and thorough reply that showed me how to access this feature that was already built in! I can’t say enough good things about this software and its developer other than: keep up the great work!

Great Personal Finance App for the Mac

I’ve been using this app for about six months and it works as advertised. With every update the developer is adding more features. It’s worth every bit of what’s worth. I really enjoy using Debit & Credit as my personal finance app. This app keeps getting better and better with every update.

Good value for excellent app

I have struggled as a retired person to have a simple way to keep track of my limited money. This app does exactly that without a lot of bells and whistles that don’t help, only confuse. I recommend this as a good app for digital record keeping, simple and accurate.
