Debit & Credit App Reviews

Its one of the gratiest apps out there

Ive used a lot of apps before this one, and I can tell that this will be the app Im going to stick with. Its realy simple to use and manage your cashflows, both version of the app (iPhone & MAC) are working properly, all data is synced trough a cloud based technology. The reports give you the big picture, so you can optimize your liabilities, expencies and positive cashflows. It has all you need and its simple to use! The only feature I miss here is the total amount of spendings on daily bases right on the transactions page, so you can keep an eye on your daily expences every time you enter a new transaction. Of course you can use the date range filter from the reports, but its slows me down (a lot of repeatable taping / clicking).

Need Help info

I’ve only been using this app for a couple weeks, only on my desktop computer. It does a good job of being a check register. I haven’t figured out how to drill down to see category expenses, especially when you split categories. My biggest complaint is I can’t find any FAQ’s. I spent a couple hours one afternoon searching for various ways to find answers to my questions; finding nothing. The only thing I ever found always sent me back to the App site, and you can see here there is not much help. I’ll keep plugging along for this calendar year.

Just what is needed . . No More, No Less

This is the fastest and most convenient tool I have found on the web. It is fast and most importantly not complicated. It works very easily and gives you your balance. Very nice. Thank You ! ! !

One of the most useful apps

It’s a great app for generating reports and categorize your expenses. Allows you to generate new categories as you please, and has great customization tools. All you need to do is be dedicated in updating your expenses regularly. Overall its one of the best finance management apps I have used.

Very Nice

If you’re OK without online syncing transactions via a service of some sort, your search is over — this is >the< app you’re looking for. I’d previously used Mint, but was shocked during a recent tech support session. One of my accounts wasn’t syncing properly and during the attempt to resolve it, the tech support person made it apparent they have access to all my account and transaction details. I’d rather my transactions are between myself and the financial service provider, not a 3rd party. I’ve tried all the major iOS personal finance apps, and they all store your account data on 3rd party servers if you’re utilizing sync functionality. Ideally, an app would store your credentials on your device only and sync directly with banks — may someday an app like that will come out, but right now there isn’t one. Enter Debit & Credit. The only syncing it does is between your devices via iCloud — and it does so instantaneously. I purchased the iOS version as well. While D&C doesn’t sync directly with banks, I’ve been able to import OFX, QFX, QIF and CSV files downloaded from my banks. An added bonus is the Apple Watch app which lets me quickly add transactions. I’d wish there was a little more functionality with payee renaming on file imports. Currently, an >exact< match will rename, but there isn’t an if/then option. An example would be Amazon.com transactions — they are often formatted slightly different, so my Payee list has 9 different Amazon.com entries so far. Same with New York City taxicabs, no 2 cabs have the same payee name, but they all have the phrase ‘NYC taxi’ — currently, D&C requires a payee-rename entry for each one. Ideally: ‘if payee includes [NYC taxi] then rename [Taxi]’ If you delete a payee from the Payee List in settings, the payee info for any previously entered transactions using that payee are changed to ‘General Transaction’ — not a fun lesson to learn and really shouldn’t work that way...

Just ok

I want to really like this app…but there just aren’t enough options in it for me. When you open it…it doesn’t automatically open to the list of transactions I’ve previously entered. If someone has figured this out…it’s obviously not an option easily pointed out. I’ve looked everywhere within the app, and cannot find that option. I don’t have the patients to mess with this app when there are hundreds of other ones out there that I can try out. sorry.

The Perfect Companion to the Perfect iOS Checkbook App

Just the perfect app for managing your personal finances. Even great if you have a small business and just need to keep track of your books. I would absolutely recommend this app and it’s companion apps on the iOS apps stores. Everything syncs so seamlessly. In a world where your music travels with you, all the photos you’ve ever taken travels with you, shouldn’t your finances travel with you?

Really good app.

This app is really good. Its easy-to-use and it syncs really well between my Mac And my iPad and my iPhone. Ive tried a few and this is the one that works best.

Clean and great

This app is very clean and easy to use. Well worth the cost. No strange bugs, no random crashes, it just works. It is plenty powerful for my needs. It has beautiful reports that are easy to understand. Oh, and it syncs perfectly with my iPhone over iCloud. I couldnt live without this app! Thank you developers for continuing to update this app!

Okay now but can be great

There are things I like and dislike about this application. I like the clean interface and the product focus (not trying to be everything to everyone). I have no problem manually downloading and importing my records - do not want to enter all of the account access info into an app. But there are things I don’t like. When you import files, it asks you for the account, which is fine, but I wish it would default to the account I have highlighted/is showing instead of the first on the list. It does not handle credit card returns well - they can be entered with a right click but cannot be imported correctly. The developer is responsive when contacted, which is good. But there is very little product documentation, which seems like an easy thing to fix. This app can be so much better once some product nuances are addressed.

Almost perfect

This app is a wonderful piece of work. I’ve been searching for a decent finance app that is clean, uses Mac-native code, syncs properly to my iPhone, and works solid with the right features. On top of all that, the pricing for this app is perfect. It’s not overpriced at all. The developer seems to be using a slow-roll approach to adding new features that really matter to people who just need to balance their checkbook and predict future balances. That’s me - I’m not into complicated money management and just need something that works. This fits the bill (har har) perfectly. My only complaint about the application is that I wish it was a little more colorful in the interface. I would love it if there were some colorful cues on deposits and withdrawals. Also, it would be nice if you could “undo” what I can only term as an “import disaster.” In just about every financial application ever made, you can import a QFX file and lay down an accidental apocalypse upon your accounting. It would be nice to be able to back out of an import operation. If there is a way to do that I’ve not yet found it. Otherwise, this app is just perfect. The developer made it really easy to give it a try with no purchasing commitment, so you owe it to him to check it out.

Great App! Especailly for the price!

I’ve been using Quicken Essentials for the past year or so and the new version was going to cost way more than I thought it was worth. I started exploring my other options and found this! So far it’s had all of the functionallity of Quicken for a fraction of the cost. I do wish one thing was different though. When I import transactions from my bank, some of them are transfers to other accounts that I have set up in the app. But these transfers show up as debits or credits and I can’t change them to transfers. The button to do so is there, but it is greyed out for some reason and have to manually enter a new transfer instead.

Quite simple and works perfect!

This app is quite simple to use and helps you keep track of your expenses. I like it a lot.

Just What I was Looking For

I recently switched to Mac from Windows, and was looking for something to replace my antique version of Quicken. I wanted something that allowed me to set up accounts for checking, savings, credit cards, and loans; schedule transactions; was inexpensive, quick to learn, and easy to use. Debit & Credit does all that and more. I’ve been using it for about a month, and it’s performed well, with only one minor glitch. I reported the glitch to the app’s creator, and the response was quick, and the creator interested in understanding and solving the problem. I’m highly satisfied with Debit & Credit - Personal Finance Manager.

Wow! Just what I was looking for!

I was using an app titled “mini$”. A couple of years ago the developer decided that no further updates would be made to it. After a lot of time I finally stumbled upon Debit & Credit. As the title says - it is just what I was looking for. Simple, easy, and a nice interface. Pairing with the app on my iPhone was icing on the cake. After a day of running some errands, I went to have some lunch. While sitting at the table, I entered in the reciepts from my purchaces on my iPhone. Because the app syncs with the cloud, all of my entries were on my Mac when I got home. Awesome. If you are interested in something straight forward and easy, I highly reccomend you give it a try.

Great app!

So I really like this app. Its easy to use although when managing more than one account it can get tidious because you have to manually adjust every account. But the interface works great!

Looking for this type of app that syncs across all devices

I thought I would give Debit & Credit a try. So far I do like the way it works. The icloud syncing has worked very well.

Great App!!!

Very Simple and easy to use. if you just need basic ledger book, this is THE APP!

No true account reconciliation and importing is horribly complicated

I really wanted to like this app. It’s got a very clean interface and seems to have the functionality I need. However, while the app developer was helpful and curteous in his attempts to resolve my importing problem, I just couldn’t get it to import my account data properly. Also, this is yet another personal finance app that fails to understand that reconciling an account has nothing to do with dates. It has nothing to do with opening balances. I know this because I can do it on paper and the paper never asks me for either fact. Here’s how reconciliation works in three steps: (1) Identify the transactions in your register that the bank shows (“cleared” transactions); (2) Take the bank’s balance and subtract the uncleared debits and add the uncleared deposits from your register; (3) If that value equals your register balance, the account is reconciled. That’s it. No dates involved. If they fix the importing and reconciliation features, I will try it again. As it stands, the software is basically useless for me.

Horrible for future transactions

SO disappointed! This app is beautiful and easy to use. The one huge problem that makes this app unuseable is the fact that you can’t show any “pending” transactions. It make reconciling my checkbook impossible unless everything has cleared. Don’t buy this. I wasted the $$ for the Mac app and iPhone app. Instead, I bought Checkbook HD. Its not as pretty, but it works much better.
